Powerhold to display Gamet improved DELTA-CR/MX Quick-Change series chuck at IMTS
The DELTA-CR/MX series of 2 and 3 jaw Quick-Change power chucks, manufactured by Gamet of Le Neubourg, France. The new MX design offers a multiple position feature for the top jaws, giving the user much more flexibility in boring soft jaws. This permits a single jaw to be bored with steps for multiple parts, simply by moving the jaw to one or more positions in the master jaw. Or, if using dedicated jaws for a single part, allows additional re-boring of the jaw by moving it to a new position in the master. The DELTA-CR/MX still incorporates our unique grooved master jaws and body, which increases the surface area of the master jaw, and provides much more rigidity. This results in much greater life and reduced jaw lift when compared to conventional power chucks.

DELTA standard and DELTA-CR series quick-change chucks come in sizes from 6” to 18.5”, and can be supplied with soft, hard, swivel, wraparound aluminum pie jaws, and special custom jaw designs. Gamet also manufactures 2+2, 2/3, large thru-hole and long-jaw-travel chuck styles to meet a wide range of turning applications. Powerhold is the exclusive provider of Gamet workholding products in North America. Middlefield CT - Shaft chuck design works with standard single piston cylinders
Powerhold Inc.- Middlefield, CT – has developed a retractable-jaw chuck design that can be used with a standard single piston actuator, resulting in a lower total capital investment. When OD turning shafts or gun barrels, accuracy often demands turning the entire length in a single operation. Face driving one end is an option, but often this requires too light a cut and slows the operation down. The retractable jaw chuck design, also called a shaft-chuck, solves this problem. The operator first turns the chuck end of the part using the integral face driver built into the chuck. Then the jaws grip the turned end, allowing for deeper cuts and faster cycle time when machining the remaining length of the shaft. Finally, the jaws are retracted and the entire part can be finish turned, again using the face driver.

The retractable jaw chuck is not a new concept, however until now, competitors designs required a costly double piston cylinder. One piston provided clamping and one was for retracting the jaws. The Powerhold design allows for a single piston actuator to do both. A Powerhold retractable jaw chuck can be turnkeyed or retrofitted, in most cases using the OEM supplied cylinder. Offered as a standard 10” model, custom sizes can be designed for specific part requirements. Contact us to help you solve your special workholding needs at sales@powerholdinc.com

POWERHOLD Begins Countdown to 50th Birthday
Powerhold Incorporated is just weeks away from the completion of their 50th year in business. Powerhold, originally formed under the name PowerGrip, was founded in January 1958 in a garage in Rockfall, CT to manufacture and sell the original 3B air operated chuck actuator. Richard Spooner, the longest current employee at Powerhold, joined the company in 1965 and was promoted to CEO and president of Powerhold in 1979. He has seen the company through many business cycles and market changes and has overseen the transformation of Powerhold to a custom workholding provider. In 1996, Richard became the chairman of the TC-11 committee for chucks and chuck jaw standards, and in 2000, he helped found and became the first chairman of the Workholding Products Group of AMT. Spooner remains the CEO of Powerhold today and in 2005 appointed Chad Spooner as company president, a position he holds today.

"I am excited to report that we have completed 50 years with an exceptional reputation and solid track record," said Chad Spooner. "We begin the next 50 years with the most capable sales, engineering and manufacturing staff the company has ever employed."
